Secrets to Success
  • Be positive. How you think is everything. Think of success and not of failure. Beware of a negative environment and by all means, avoid negative influences.
  • Have dreams and goals in life. Decide upon your true dreams and aspirations. If it helps, write down your specific goals in life and develop plans on how to reach them.
  • Be persistent and work hard. Success is a journey, not a final destination. Never give up.
  • Take actions! Goals are nothing without action. Do not be afraid to get started. Just do it.
  • Learn. Never hesitate to learn and never stop learning. Learn as much as you can. If you can, go back to school and finish school, if you have not. Read books in your spare time. Get training and acquire skills.
  • Learn to analyze details. Get all the facts, all the input. Learn from your mistakes. Be responsible.
  • Focus your energy on your goal. Do not let other people or other things distract you.
  • Innovate. Do not be afraid to innovate. Be different. Be Unique.
  • Communicate. Deal and communicate with people effectively. Learn to understand. Motivate yourself and others.

Speech at ICA Extraordinary General Assembly

ICA Extraordinary General Assembly
Cooperatives United events,
30 October 03 November 2012
Manchester, the UK
/by N.Bayartsaikhan/

Your Excellency, Dame Pauline Green, President of ICA,
Mr. Charles Gould, Director General of ICA,
Distinguished delegates of cooperative organizations worldwide,
I am very glad, as a head of the leading cooperative organization of Mongolia, to participate in the ICA Extraordinary General Assembly and Cooperatives United events here in Manchester, the world capital of cooperative movement.
The UN 64th General Assembly approved the initiative of the Government of Mongolia and declared 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives. We, at National Association of Mongolian Agricultural Cooperatives, conveyed to the Government of Mongolia the importance of initiating this year.
2012 is the significant moment for the world cooperative movement and our association partnering with other organizations and the Government of Mongolia is implementing a number of activities to celebrate the Year.
First of all, to promote the rural cooperatives our cooperative movement together with Government announced a three-year program “Campaign to promote rural cooperation”. Within the scope of the program, nationwide activities have started to identify and support existing cooperatives, which are playing a key role for the development of the rural communities, and to foster the formation of new cooperatives. As a first result, 105 rural cooperatives were identified as eligible to get investment and other support for further development.
We have established a working group to revise the existing Law on Cooperatives and we are appealing to the Parliament of Mongolia urgently amend the law considering the unique business structure of the cooperatives.
We are more focusing on increasing the public awareness about the cooperative model of enterprises and their role in the social and economic development of the country through training, seminars, demonstration workshops, and media advertisements, and we can see actual results that people’s understanding of cooperatives are improved and the willingness to support and join the cooperatives are increased.
Today nearly one in seven people suffer from undernourishment, which means that the world has the means to eliminate hunger. It is becoming more obvious that, due to the world population growth, the negative impact of climate change on farming and farmland degradation, the demand for food will further increase. There is a need for producing extra food to feed more than nine billion people by 2050. One of the necessary steps to achieving food security and alleviating the hunger is to support and invest in agricultural cooperatives. Agricultural cooperatives help small farmers and herders to increase food production, market their goods, create jobs and improve their livelihoods. But most of the agricultural cooperatives in the developing countries face numerous difficulties and challenges.
Therefore, it is vital to increase understanding of the role and importance of agricultural cooperatives in achieving food security, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty in the world and there is a need to empower and support the growth of agricultural cooperatives.

The 22nd EAOC Top Level Meeting Opening Address

The 22nd EAOC Top Level Meeting
OPENING ADDRESS
by
Mr. Bayartsaikhan N., President of NAMAC
(September 10th, 2012, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia)
Mr. Hajime Yaguchi, Executive Director of Central Union of Agricultural Cooperatives JA-ZENCHU of Japan,
Mr. Sung-Hee Lee, Chairman of Auditing Committee of National Agricultural Cooperative Federation of Korea,
Mr. Ching-Tien Hsiao, Chief of Supervisors of Taiwan Provincial Farmers’ Association,
Mr. Natwarlal Pitamberdas Patel, Chairman of Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited,
Distinguished Delegates and Guests,
First of all, on behalf of the host organization, I would like to welcome you all to Mongolia and to the opening of the 22nd EAOC Top Level Meeting.
We, the East Asian Agricultural Organization Council members, convene annually to develop mutually beneficial cooperation and discuss common issues faced by Asian countries, such as climate change, food security, and supply, international trade imbalance and agree on terms to reduce their negative impacts on agriculture.
The UN 64th General Assembly approved the initiative of the Government of Mongolia and declared 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives. We, at NAMAC, conveyed to the Government of Mongolia the importance of this initiative based on our past experience proposing and subsequently celebrating 2003 as the Year of Cooperative Development Support in Mongolia.
We are very much pleased to host the 22nd EAOC Top Level Meeting in Mongolia in the International Year of Cooperatives, and I am most grateful for your attendance.
Today, we are meeting here to discuss our views on the theme “Cooperative Development: Challenges for the next decade in Asia” and to define our mutual activities to be implemented in the next ten years in the region.
One of the most vital issues we face today is world hunger and food shortages amid an atmosphere of population growth, income disparity, and increasing agricultural production demand.
I believe that this meeting will play an important role in facilitating the exchange of our experiences and in strengthening our collaboration in terms of overcoming major challenges such as increasing food prices, rapid urbanization and shrinking farmlands, and the decreasing number of agricultural producers and their aging.
In order to meaningfully celebrate the International Year of Cooperatives, the Government of Mongolia, together with cooperative organizations, adopted a three-year “Campaign to promote the rural cooperative movement”. Within the scope of the program, nationwide activities have started to improve the hygiene and quality standards of the agricultural outputs produced by rural herders, link local producers to processors, incentivize producers to trade on the impending Agricultural commodity exchange, provide preferential loans to agricultural cooperatives and develop their human resource capacity.
The national association supports and participates in Government actions on cooperative development, and I sincerely hope that these actions will soar in the term of the new Government, which was formed just a month ago.
NAMAC initiated and successfully implemented a number of large nationwide programs. Partnering with local technology producer “MGM Group” LLC, we are implementing the “ICT in Agriculture” program through our branches. This program is essential to improve the livelihood of remote rural communities by introducing new information technologies and equipment, environmentally friendly renewable energy solutions, and by increasing the possibility for herders to use all kinds of electronic appliances.
I would like to express here that NAMAC, on behalf of all its members and as a member of International Cooperative Alliance, is willing to participate in any policies and activities that seek to solve the issues we face.
I appeal to the Central Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Japan, the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation of Korea, the Taiwan Provincial Farmers Association, the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited and the National Association of Mongolian Agricultural Cooperatives, in order to conquer the challenges we will face in the next decade and initiate concrete programs to strengthen our collaboration in terms of experience sharing, trainings and projects.
We also would like to propose the establishment of an “EAOC fund” dedicated to enhancing members’ business skills and to protecting agricultural cooperatives, farmers and herders from climate and financial/economic risks. With the purpose of generating sources for the fund, we are poised to pledge 500 thousand USD.
Lastly, to effectively overcome our challenges we must consolidate our strength, and I wish that our future cooperation will be prosperous and abundant.
Thank you very much for your attention.

Stronger middle class

One of the big challenges that leaders of emerging economic countries face today centers around the demands of a new, growing middle class. The recent history of Asian and European countries shows that the early generation of leaders were very strong men. They included Stalin in Russia, Choibalsan in Mongolia, Mao Zedong in China, Park Chung-Hee in South Korea, Lee Kuan Yew in Singapore and Suharto in Indonesia.
In those times, societies were able to handle such strong leaders because they were relatively poor and undeveloped. But when countries succeed in developing a middle class, people immediately expect to play a bigger role politically and in terms of how their society should be organized.
The leader of a nation has to be strong. But people need to have a strong leader who can win over their popular support. Now, society can’t have the kind of top-down leadership which had countries in the past.
