The Hashshashins was the first suicide attackers in human history. They managed to survive as a secret society from the XI century until they were expelled by the Mongols in the XIII century.
Their fortress was Alamut, the mountain located in the present day in Iran, close to the Caspian Sea. The Hashshashin- it was the first organization established for the purpose of using terrorism as a political weapon. Their name survives in the words “to assassinate” in English. Many European and Arabian thrones fell under their killers.
Alamut's walls were stormed in 1256 by Mongols. The Mongols stormed the Hashshashin fort and burned “Eagle’s Nest” to the ground in 1260. The head of “Eagle’s Nest” was a so-called Mountain man.
